Free Holiday Pattern

We are delighted to introduce our 2014 Free Holiday Pattern! My entire team looks forward to this annual project. Over the past weeks I experimented with yarns, amounts and gauge - looking for that perfect amount of snug around the ears and the 2 perfect lengths. All this knitting morphed into a pile of 13 terrific hats on my kitchen table. Family, friends, models and photographer...each calling "dibs" on their favorite. That is always a GREAT sign!

This is the perfect winter hat to knit and wear, worked in the round with super bulky yarn on large needles, the stitch definition is dreamy and the simple cables are perfect for the novice knitter! With just 70 to 100 yards of your favorite yarn you have a choice; a skull cap or a longer "slouchy" hat with just the perfect amount of sag. Perfect for any head, it will soon be your favorite 3 hour project. Alterations are given for that smaller or larger head. Knit one for everyone you love and they will be warm and grateful all winter long.

Gentle Breezes

"It's a moment that I'm after, a fleeting moment, but not a frozen moment." -- Andrew Wyeth

Gentle soft summer breezes, salty air that arrives in the afternoons when the ocean air changes direction. There is no smell like it. To crawl into bed on summer evenings with crisp line dried sheets and cotton jammies, the best!

Summer moments are some of our favorites, lost days and evenings perhaps on vacation, or maybe at home with that great summer book, or a project that gently holds your attention, lets your imagination mosey and wander. Life slows down and we catch our breath.

We love these fleeting moments and offer these new blankets for the last few weeks of your lazy summer.

“It's summer and time for wandering...”
― Kellie Elmore, Magic in the Backyard

Where will you wander this summer? Will you read a first time author, sort those old photos, grow veggies in a garden or on a rooftop? Join the kids in a game of flashlight tag or float with them on a raft? Will you listen to the wind rustling new leaves, treasure the cool quiet of early morning and the tranquility that comes with the setting sun?

Summer invites us to slow down, unwind. I hope to recapture that feeling of abandoning time and care, let my hands and mind remember the creativity of my childhood days. Those summer days when we were able to "just settle", pull out the gimp, sketch pads, crochet, knitting or my favorite at age 10, spool people, made from wooden spools and scraps of yarn and fabric. The joy of imagining themed groups of people. The sheer delight of designing those people.

Here are a few of our MAC & ME favorites and classics for your summer needles. Choose something small or something big, perhaps something to use that lovely yarn you have been saving for a very special project. Treat yourself to time, to relaxation and rejuvenation.

Please tell us what you are making this summer, share photos and ideas on Facebook.

Outer Baby Blanket, #106

January marks the first month and the time for new beginnings. What better time to celebrate a new baby? What better time to start a baby blanket that will commemorate a birth, become a baby's best friend and perhaps become a treasured family heirloom?

My own family is welcoming two new babies. My mom's first great grandchildren and my brother's first grandchildren. My brother's two sons and their wives are each expecting June babies!!  I have six brothers and sisters...can you imagine the welcome these babies will receive?

Whether you live near or far from a new baby, please join me in knitting the perfect blanket for the baby you know. Or perhaps, for the baby you do not know. Many places welcome baby blankets for those who need them most.
A new month, a newborn, a new pattern!  Whether light and airy for the warmer climates, or warm and lofty for a brisk winter stroller walk, a baby blanket is the perfect January project. These blankets inspire me. I hope they will inspire you!
